DEPARTMENT OF OTORHINOLARYNGOLOGY HIMS, HASSAN.

1. About the department:

Department of otorhinolaryngologyis committed to provide competency-based education to students, high quality clinical services to patients and to conduct high quality research.

Students of 2nd –MBBS and 3rd MBBS, Paramedical and Nursing are trained in otorhinolaryngologyto understand the basics, disease mechanisms and common abnormalities of ear, nose and throat.  Academic activities include theory classes, clinical classes, tutorials, seminars, group discussions, integrated teaching and periodic assessment of the students.

Otorhinolaryngologydiagnostic services have become more important than ever, for the clinician to arrive at a diagnosis. They form the cornerstone of healthcare. Department of Otorhinolaryngology offers otorhinolaryngicalservices round the clock, supporting the clinicians with wide range of investigations.

Research activities are integral component of our department. Departmental staff members are actively involved in research and have published more than 10 articles in various national and international scientific journals and presented papers in various conferences.

Department is well equipped with a modern Otorhinolaryngology equipments for diagnostic and research and also we have undergraduate practical halls, demonstration rooms, seminar hall, and a departmental library which has updated text books and reference books for the use of faculty and Undergraduate students.

 

2. Services Provided:

At College:

Post graduate teaching with 2 intake M.S otorhinolaryngology seats since 2018. Presently 6 post graduates are there to pursuing the course.Undergraduate teaching for 2nd and 3rd -MBBS students, Paramedical students, and Nursing students.UG Teaching for 150 students.

NPPCD-NATIONAL PROGRAMME PREVENTION CONTROL DEAFNESS is functioning in this institution with qualified Audiologist with assistants and  instructorfor screening of deafness in whole Hassan district ( all taluq’s).

Audiology related investigations are carried out regularly .cochlear implant post speech therapy are undergoing in the department hence patients are referring from Mysore and nearby places.

We have vision to establish cochlear implant setup in coming years.

 

At Hospital Laboratory:

Outpatient, inpatient and diagnostic services are provided round the clock to patients at Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences and teaching hospital.
